Sex attacker jailed for six years despite police having no idea who he is

A man has been convicted and jailed for attempted rape, even though police do not know his real identity and his victim was never traced.

The victim left the scene prior to police arrival, and has never been traced despite police appeals for her to come forward.Speaking after the conviction at Blackfriars Crown Court, Detective Constable Kip Malek said: This is a highly unusual case where we have been unable to trace the victim and the man who has been convicted is under an assumed name.

He added that despite the conviction and sentence, they are keen to discover the mans true identity and the whereabouts of the victim.
